Blogging for the Right Reasons

Why do you blog?

Some common answers to this question are:
- "I like to write."
- "For fame."
- "To attract potential customers."
- "To document my life."
- "To meet new people."
- "To make money."

These are all good reasons to have a blog, but if you want to be a successful author, you need to keep your priorities in proper order.

If you are blogging for fame and fortune alone, you are most likely destined to fail. It shows when a writer has no real passion for what he or she is writing about, and the majority of readers will not return to that website. The blogger will think of writing as a chore and will eventually give up, having wasted lots of time on something he or she never really cared about.

Instead, a person should be blogging because he or she WANTS to, about a topic they LIKE. This way, the time and effort put into constantly updating a website will not be regretted a few months down the road.

For example, I started this blog because:
- I like to write.
- I enjoy helping others.
- I would like to meet people with similar interests.
- I learn new things while teaching others what I know.
- I could use some extra money.

Because I have fun blogging, I don't mind putting a little extra work into something that may not turn out as planned. My main priority is to use this experience as an opportunity to learn new things, not to become an internet celebrity. The latter would be nice, but I'm not going to set myself up to be let down.

Now that you know why I write, tell me- Why do you blog?
